I'm a blogging application ho. Srsly. On my domain, I have Chyrp, Blosxom, and Symphony installed. I'm not doing anything with them except messing around. I think I install these things just to make sure I can. And I'm fascinated by microblogging.
Chyrp is supposed to be tumblr-esque. Tumblr is great and I love it, but some of the things I love about it haven't migrated over to Chyrp, and I'm not so great at programming akshuly, so I can't make it happen.
For instance. On Tumblr, you can use your Tumblr bookmarklet to post a photo. You can put the photo URL from any file hosted on the intarwebz, and it will take it, resize it, stick it on the server as yours, and display it on your page. If I want to post an image on Chyrp, I actually have to download it and then re-upload it onto my server ALL BY MYSELF. No magical internet-resize-photo-grabbing on Chyrp. And I think that's really a beautiful feature that makes me want to post a lot of things for keeping that I may not otherwise keep. Maybe sometime if more people get active in the community. Right now there are a scant few themes that even work with Chyrp's new version, most of them ugly. I can't make a theme because I don't have the php patience these days to hammer one out. I can probably change the default theme (which is just fine except for being ugly colored) and make it work.
Symphony is XML and XSLT-driven which is totally awesome. I just started playing with it so I don't know what all it can do yet, but it seems really complex and beautifully designed. Really elegant.
Blosxom is probably going to be out of date forever, as I don't see a lot of people working on/with it. What's great about Bloxsom is that it employs a hierarchical blogging structure (rather than tagging, see), which is really interesting. Hierarchies don't work for everyone (especially not in Web 2.0 world), but they're the most lovely and powerful simple access structure. It's incredibly light-weight and you can style it any way you want just with regular HTML. Your entries are .txt files uploaded to the server (or even kept locally!). That's all. Totally wonderful.
So, I need to get back to messing with my two million web projects that aren't related to school or work. I should be reading about echolocation in bats. Meh.
I also just realized how funny it is that I'm blogging on a totally different system about other blogging applications.

Film & TV writers are on strike, which means everything except reality TV could halt production. Do you support the strike? Are any of your favorite shows in jeopardy?
I support all strikes. And if this means The Wire is in trouble, then that's what it means. But I'm sure that all the creators and lovers of The Wire are eager to do right by the writers. Because we're that kind of crowd.
And no, wrestling won't be affected. They fire all the real writers on staff anyway. And rightfully so.
Led Zeppelin will finally offer their music online starting next month. Of the music you buy, about how much of it do you download and how much do you buy on physical formats (CDs, vinyl, etc.)?
I never download music. All the music I have I used to get on CD and it's enough to last me a lifetime. Now in my physical reality I buy vinyl almost exclusively. And I do have plenty of Zeppelin.
Do you have a regular workout routine? What's your favorite form of exercise?
Ooooh ooh pick me pick me!
I slacked off last week because of the sickness.
But generally, I have a weight-lifting routine for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (because those are the days I don't have work at 9AM). I try to work out every major muscle group with different exercises each day. After training, I usually can do some 20 minutes of cardio if I have time. Cardio's not a real big priority with me. So clearly weight training is my favorite form of exercise. It's so amazing to be stronger and notice it. It's wonderful to be able to lift more than the week before. Even opening doors is easier. I loves my iron.
